I remember the first time I asked my boss for a raise, back in 2013 – it was a nerve-wracking experience, being uncharted territory at the time. Little did I do, that moment sparked a fire within me to continually advocate for myself. As an HR manager, I have also found myself on the receiving end of similar conversations where individuals approach me for salary adjustments. Through these interactions, I have gained valuable insight into what approaches resonate with managers and what may lead them to hesitate or deny the request.

I have navigated numerous job interviews and negotiated offers on six (6) separate occasions. Because of this, I understand firsthand the intricacies of approaching these conversations – I’ve even had the courage to decline offers that did not align with my expectations. I have ventured beyond my comfort zone, aiming high and requesting what I know I deserve. I recognize that such boldness may not suit everyone and declining an offer may not be feasible for everyone.
